Destiny Review- Does it live up to the hype?
By Sam Coles:
Destiny was one of the most anticipated and hyped game of
this year along with Watch Dogs, but unfortunately the game falls flat in some
places, however it is a fun and addicting game so it’s not terrible it’s just
doesn’t deliver in some aspects of the game. So let’s dive in and explore the
world of Destiny.
The story of this game (what is there where you don’t have
to do background reading) is that you play as a Guardian and you have been dead
for a while as you are found by a hovering robotic entity, which reminds me of
343 guilty spark, finds you called a Ghost. You are then taken to a hub area
called the tower where you meet the Speaker and he explains that you were
revived by a spherical object in the sky called the Traveller. The Traveller
has been around for centuries helping raise humanity into the golden age of
space travel and extending life throughout the galaxy, until the darkness came
along and start to fight against the traveller, which is where you as the
Guardian come in.
Before you can unleash yourself into the galaxy you must
first pick one out of three classes although there are only three it gets out
of the standard soldier, engineer and sniper class that you’re usually burdened
with in the FPS genre, no you have classes that take traits from traditional
high fantasy RPG’s instead.
You have the Hunter which specialise in being sneaky and
backing you up from a distance so when you’re playing as this class you’ll more
than likely be sticking to sniper rifles, the hunter’s special ability is that he or she can use solar light
to burn enemies into ashes.
The Titan uses a vast array of offensive and defensive
skills and has a lot of power with melee and general attacks so this class will
be your support in battle.
Finally you have Worlock who has mastery of the void so he
or she can cast magical blasts to vaporise your enemies.
Then you are unleashed in the word and considering that I
played this game on PS3 a console that is eight years old at this point, the
game still looked surprisingly beautiful. That’s what I like of the latest
shooters in the new gen is that they’ve ditch the greyish brown (for the most
part) and have created these awe inspiring and vibrant worlds with lots of
colour. This game has some fantastic looking environments from the Moon, the
jungles of Venus even to the desolate deserts on Mars, Bungie are renowned for
creating detailed worlds and they don’t disappoint here.
The musical score absolute amazing another aspect Bungie gets
right again to help you feel the tension in battle with operatic scores that
get you pumped when you’re surrounded by enemies or if you are fighting a boss.
The gameplay is familiar if you have played Halo Reach
before then you’ll feel right at home with the gun play because the controls
and shooting mechanics feel like Reach except you can aim down sights now
rather than the classic hip firing. The gameplay has a sense of verticality which
a lot shooters seem to abandon these days, you’ll find yourself jumping all the
over the place from places and then doing a ground pound on mobs of enemies.
Throughout your journey you’ll obtain experience and high
levels which will then let you upgrade your characters abilities this could be
anything from learning the ground pound ability as a Titan (which I played as)
or just the simple unlock of grenades, it feels awarding each time you level
up. After you hit level 15 you can use a different class which there are even
more skills for you to play with which encourages you to take different approaches
in raids or PvP multiplayer.
Similar to Borderlands there are lots of varied
weapons (far less than Borderlands) that you can find and unlock on your
travels by finding some that you have to unencrypt or you can find them in loot
chests, it’s always fun to find out what your weapon will do if it’s a fusion
rifle that spits out fire or ice or even a traditional rocket launcher to take
down a boss.
Now I’ve got all the positives out the way let’s go into the
negatives which make the game fall flat in places. The story is the main thing
that bothers me because there isn’t much of a story here and if you want to
know more about the lore you have to go online and read about it which isn’t
even in the game most of the time. It doesn’t help the story as well when the voice
acting is delivered poorly especially Peter Dinklage who
plays the part of your Ghost and is the voice you’ll hear throughout most of
the campaign and it just sounds like he doesn’t get on with the material.
Finally the Crucible the competitive multiplayer mode
in Destiny, the matchmaking is terrible because as a low level you can be
fighting someone from level 15-29 which means you’ll get your arse handed to
you and you’ll never want to play again, but the game modes are fun they have
the usual domination and team deathmatch modes but I would recommend levelling up
a bit first before jumping in.
In conclusion Destiny does not live up to the hype and
marketing, but does it make it a terrible game? No I don’t think so I had a lot
of fun with it and yes it can get repetitive and the voice acting is flat but
when you play it with friends or strangers it can be a fun experience I would
recommend playing it, but maybe wait for the price to fall.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution Review.
By Sam Coles:
Anime and Japanese games have never got on with me; maybe it’s the pure
weirdness of the stories and the absurdness of the fighting which I don’t mind
because I like the spectacle of the fights. Naruto Shippuden hasn’t swayed me
in favour due to its repetitive gameplay and lacklustre content, but it’s not
all bad.
There is a story of sorts in the “Ninja Escapades” mode where you play
through three scenarios which are accompanied with cutscenes which are
beautifully animated and are well directed with decent voice acting and nice
cinematography are a nice addition to the usual fighting game formula.
The first episode is fairly lengthy but unfortunately the other two are
ridiculously short and the final episode is just a cutscene there is no
gameplay at all. You’ll go through one on one fights which has a similar
feeling to the recent version of Jo Jo’s Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle on
the PS3, that it’s on a weird camera angle which slants to side, it’s not a
problem it’s just a bit of an odd design decision.
You also get the Super Ninja Tournament mode which entails you going through
several fights where you can be pitted against three other people in an arena
fight which can get crazy with the ridiculous special moves, but the animations
do get boring after a while accompanied with the same line every time. Fight is
not determined how much health is depleted, but is determined of how many orbs
you have stolen from your enemies and that will make you win and you can then
use those orbs in the island hub area where you can upgrade your moves and you
buy different ninja gadgets.
So in this mode you can also go into two on two fights and you have free
movement in each fight so it gives you freedom and flexibility in the arena but
it does cause confusion because the camera will go nuts sometimes. The main
problem I have with this mode is that the A.I. is not very smart because
they’ll constantly spam the same attack or they don’t move at all they’ll just
stand there waiting for you to hit them.
Overall this game is entertaining in parts, but unfortunately it’s marred
with A.I. problems, stiff animation and a lack of content it’s fun with
friends, but on your own it’s a frustrating romp.

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Co-op Gameplay Trailer - Exo Survival.
By Sam Coles:
As we edge ever so close towards the release date of Call of
Duty Advanced Warfare, we keep
getting new details about the game such as the
recent release of a new trailer that shows off Sledgehammer’s co-op mode titled
Exo Survival.
This game mode is more reminiscing of the spec ops survival
from Modern Warfare 3 as it should because the guys from Sledgehammer help
finish that game off. You face waves of enemies with their own weapons and
gadgets as you restock your ammo supply and use upgraded exo suits which more
armour and all that sort of stuff. So it’s your standard horde mode where you
take on enemies wave after wave along with the ability from the Modern Warfare
to use killstreaks to help you deplete the enemy numbers, not my thing but it
is fun with friends.
Call of Duty Advanced Warfare releases November 4th
on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS Demo Impressions.
By Sam Coles:
So finally the demo of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS has been released to the public rather than specific club Nintendo members, so I want to give quick impressions of the demo of how it handles and how it looks.
To be honest when they revealed Super Smash Bros. 3DS I was sceptical because I was worried how it would control with the 3DS’s control scheme were it only has one analogue stick which restricted a few games on the system such as Metal Gear Sold 3 to name a few. However when I played the demo I was really surprised to find that the game controls really well it has a tight control scheme you can use up to jump on the analogue stick but it’s easier to use the Y button instead.
Another aspect that I was worried about was the frame rate because again a lot of games on the 3DS do have a habit of dropping frames often to sometimes unplayable frame rates, but again this game runs at a buttery smooth frame rate of 60 frames per second, the only time that frames drop a bit is when final smashes are performed. The graphics are beautiful with intense detail on the available characters in the demo from the detail on Link’s Master Sword to Megaman’s armour.
The game is fast and fun compared to Brawl it hasn’t been slowed down for the sake of upping the graphics, it’s not quiet Melee levels of speed but it has a mixture of both Brawl and Melee to give that perfect mix of action and movement.
You have a select few characters to play around with as well as one stage and you can play multiplayer but only local for sake of this demo. You can pick Mario, Link, Pikachu and Megaman, they’re all varied and have unique attacks I liked using Megaman because he can use all his power ups from Megaman II.
I was pleasantly surprised by this demo which gets excited for the full release of the game when it hits the 3DS 3rd of October, so if you have a 3DS give it a go it’s a lot of fun.

Dark Souls II The Lost Crowns Third DLC Delayed.
By Sam Coles:
From Software have been providing us with more content to
throw ourselves at brick wall with frustration with the The Lost Crown trilogy.
So if you are waiting for the latest and final part of the trilogy well you’ll
have to wait until September 30th to die over and over again because
it’s been delayed.
Dark Souls II came out earlier this year and was met with
positive reviews although the hardcore fans said that they nerfed it, but over
it’s a great and challenging experience which I would highly recommend if you
still have your Xbox 360 and PS3 or if you have a PC as well.

Battlefield Hardline: Hotwire Multiplayer Gameplay Trailer
By Sam Coles:
A new trailer for the cops and robbers fantasy for Battlefield
Hardline shows off a new game mode within the multiplayer component, which looks
to be Need for Speed Most Wanted except instead of doing takedowns by ramming
them, you can now shoot them with assault rifles or blow them up with an RPG.
The game mode is called “Hotwire” and it’s a mode that is
completely vehicle based whereas the cops you have to chase them down and stop
them with your car or set up road blocks to stop them in their tracks or you
can do it the conventional way by shooting them. It looks to be a fun and high
octane experience that the Battlefield franchise needs.
Battlefield Hardline was delayed from its original October
release date of 2014 and has now been push to early 2015 to grace its presences
on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

The Evil Within TGS 2014 Trailer.
By Sam Coles:
TGS 2014 kicks off in full swing this week and the guys at
Bethesda have released a new trailer showing off more of the terrifying title
from the director of the original Resident Evil games Shinji Mikami, The Evil
Within.
This trailer looks as if the character is starting to lose
his grips on reality and fantasy as you can see throughout the trailer he sees things
that his brain cannot comprehend. This looks to be a true to form survival
horror which the gaming industry has been neglecting at the moment for a more
action orientated slant.
The Evil Within will be released on October 14th
in Europe and North America on the PS4,PS3,Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 New Trailer
Trailer Source: Outside Xbox
By Sam Coles:
Since the announcement of Resident Evil Revelations 2 we were not given a lot of information about the gameplay, characters and story. You play as Claire Redfield in this game and we haven't played as this character since Code Veronica back in the year 2000. The game looks like they have gone back to the routes of the Resi series by having dark and tight corridors and terrifying monsters.
The trailer shows that Claire is kidnapped by some military types and is then infected with a virus and wakes up in a prison with a glowing wrist strap which was present in the live action trailer. I have a feeling (I'm just speculating) that this game will have a Dead Rising style time limit and you'll have a certain amount of time to get rid of the infection, but we'll not know until Capcom give us more information.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 will be released on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC early 2015, still no Wii U which is bizarre considering the original game was Nintendo exclusive.

GTA Online Creator Throwback Jobs: Red Dead Tribute Special.
By Sam Coles:
More verified jobs from Rockstar Games with more of an old and throwback theme, these jobs are a tribute to one of my favorite games of last generation and that game is Red Dead Redemption. The game that successfully transferred the western from the silver screen to video games. The jobs are themed around the areas in Red Dead and game modes from the multiplayer. Here are the list of jobs:
Red Dead Redemption by LordSando (Xbox 360)
As long as you’re willing to
overlook the occasional shipping container (think of them as abandoned railway
cars), you could easily slip back in time and be convinced you've been
transported to the Old West in this Deathmatch set around the dusty confines of
the Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness. There's a back-to-basics feel to the
restrained placement of Pistols, Sawn-Offs and Molotovs here and the varied
elevation of the setting, paired with the generous cover, make for a
well-balanced and tactical Deathmatch. Plus the opening standoff, with each
team starting out facing each other, nicely approximates Red Dead's
last-man-standing style Duels.
Marston's Ranch by TheMckeever (PS3)
With the haze of New Austin
far off in the distance, this rural retreat that’s reminiscent of Beecher's Hope is a great
setting for a well-pitched Deathmatch. Pistols are the order of the day but, if
you look hard enough, you may very well find a Sawn-Off or a Grenade to mix
things up. Unless the Wright Brothers took an undocumented trip cross country,
we're not sure if the Duster is completely on-theme... but we'll let that
slide.
Tesoro Azul by JaseTheChase
(Xbox 360)
"Do you
long for the days when Deadeye was king and the only thing between you and
death was the speed of your draw with a Double-Action Revolver?"
reads the description for this GTA Online take on Red Dead multiplayer mode
"Hold Your Own", which has racked up over 600 plays at the time
of this writing. JaseTheChase has used shipping containers and other Props to
create a faithful replica of Tesoru Azul, one of the hideout locations in Nuevo
Paraiso. The aim here is simple: grab the opposing team's bag and take it back
to your base. Weapons are locked to Pistols but you can also find some Molotovs
scattered around for fiery fun.
Red Dead Race by Zidane
(PS3)
These steeds might not eat
straw but this Sanchez Point-to-Point Race across the Grand Senora
Desert, compliments of a
long time member of the GTAGaming
gang (and a Commissioner in the GTAGaming
Crew), takes us back to playing Red Dead's Grand Prix. It's all here -
weaving through cacti, cutting through brush and speeding along the rail track
- albeit with a different kind of horsepower involved.
RED DEAD
by ScarfacexD16
(Xbox 360)
This Team Deathmatch takes
place at the old sawmill and surrounding valleys located at the foot of Mount Chiliad
and Mount Gordo. It features a good range of cover
and elevation for a back-to-basics, Pistols-only shootout. Just beware of
taking cover close to the gas tank at the back of the house. There's something
a bit more combustible than manure inside...
Red Dead by ElusiveBlk202
(PS3)
Another Deathmatch commencing
with a close proximity Red Dead-style duel, but this time starting ammo is
restricted so you really need to make every shot in the chamber count. From
there it all goes down in an enclosed space surrounded by train carriages and
removed from the modern trappings of civilization. Rocks are your cover and
bushes your hiding spots, with a raised area in the center providing some great
coming together moments.
Tall Trees by adeadzombiebones (Xbox 360)
The mountainous and wooded
Tall Trees area of West Elizabeth is a popular hunting ground in Red Dead and
this GTA Online Job, set in Raton
Canyon, substitutes
Pistols and Shotgun skirmishes for skinning bearhides. Expect many tense
shootouts as players make the most of the ample cover provided by the forest.
GRAB THE BAG by BigSo786
(PS3)
Grab the Bag is one of Red
Dead's best-loved multiplayer modes and this GTA Online version by BigSo786 is
a fitting tribute. The central bags, protected at the beginning by potent
Actors, and the small playing area make for an intense start as all four teams
converge. Once things spread out, varied elevation and a good spread of weapon
pickups offer scope to mix up your tactical approach.
These jobs are available now so head to Los Santos and
prepare to duel with you friends.

Alien: Isolation goes gold, new trailer series begins
By Sam Coles:
Creative Assembly have announced today that Alien
Isolation has gone gold and is ready for manufacture for discs and will be
hitting stores on October 7th of this year. In celebration of this
Sega will be making videos leading up to the upcoming horror game.
#HOWWILLYOUSURVIVE? Are a series of videos that will be a series
of trailers show casing gameplay and many unique ways that you’ll be able to escape
and outsmart the Alien creature that will be stalking you throughout the game.
After the complete disaster that was Aliens Colonial
Marines back in 2013 from Gearbox Software a lot of Aliens fans were all
thinking that there could not be a true Alien game. But this game looks
promising because it is based on the 1979 film which was a pure claustrophobic
horror film with only one Alien, so it should be good fingers crossed.
Alien Isolation releases worldwide on Xbox One, Xbox
360, PS4, PS3 and PC on October 7th.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 - Live-Action Trailer
Trailer Source: GamesHQMedia
By Sam Coles:
There have been many rumours surrounding a sequel to the 3DS
later ported to consoles Resident Evil Revelations. Finally it has surfaced by
Capcom to be true and they have given us this live action trailer and like all
live action trailers tells us absolutely bugger all about the game. What I can
get the gist of is that the infection has started to spread at an accelerated
rate and people now have to wear wrist bands which are green when they are
clean and then red when they are infected.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 is scheduled to come early 2015
no actual release date has been set, it will be on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3
and PC, but no Wii U release.
